Smoothie Bowls Are Back!

Smoothie Bowls Are Back!

Smoothie bowls are having their moment again... and, I couldn’t be happier about it.

A few years back, they were everywhere. We made them daily in our house. Fancy toppings, coconut bowls, blender working overtime. Then life got busy, routines changed, and they quietly slipped off the menu.

Fast forward to now, and they’re back on high rotation!

There’s something so satisfying about a smoothie bowl on a hot day. They’re cool, refreshing, quick to make, and feel like a proper meal without any of the heaviness. Perfect for breakfast, great for lunch, and yes, they absolutely count as dinner when it’s too warm (or too late) to cook.

What I love most is how flexible they are. You can use whatever fruit you’ve got on hand, add a handful of extras for a nutrient boost, and change up the toppings depending on your mood. No rules. No perfection. Just easy, nourishing food that works around real life.

My top tip is to keep your freezer stocked with frozen fruit and veg - I sometimes buy pre-frozen bags, but our over-ripe fruit always ends up in the freezer ready to pop in a smoothie or bowl. I also love freezing chunks of zucchini and cauliflower and popping some in too. They don't change the taste of your smoothie and add extra goodness.

This is the smoothie bowl I keep coming back to: simple, no-fuss, and very forgiving. Use this as your base and add frozen veg, protein powder or anything else you want to boost the nutrients!

My Easy-Peasy Choc Banana Smoothie Bowl Recipe

1 cup frozen banana pieces
1/2 cup frozen avocado pieces (let them thaw on the bench for 10 min first)
2 Tbs cacao powder
2 Tbs peanut butter
1 Tbs maple syrup
1/3-1/2 cup milk of your choice (my preference is almond milk)

Place all ingredients and 1/3 cup milk in a high-powered blender.
Blend on high speed until smooth and creamy. You may need to stop and stir the mixture a few times.
You want it nice and thick, but if it's too thick you can add 1Tbs milk at a time until your desired consistency is reached.
Pour into a bowl and top with toppings of your choice.

Topping ideas:
Berries, coconut, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, peanut butter or nut butter, cacao nibs, chopped dried fruit, granola, chopped fresh fruit, nuts, linseeds, etc.

If you make one, I’d love to see it. Tag me or send a pic!

Happy blending 💛
